As a way of giving women more leadership and decision making positions, the Political Party Act (2002) should be amended to enable a section which will force political parties to have women in the leading line. This was said yesterday by the chairperson of the Tanzania Women Cross-Party Platform (Ulingo), Ms Anna Abdallah, during a-day-long workshop in which they presented their proposals on what should be included in the new Constitution.
“The law should be amended so that it can push political parties to include women in top leadership positions,” said Ms Abdallah.
She noted that while reviewing the Act, TWPC noted a lot of shortfalls on the side of ensuring that women hold leadership positions in political parties, “very few parties have women at the helm, this should be rectified,” said Ms Anna Abdallah. (Alex Bitekeye)
